Historical The Waterfront opened its doors shortly after the prohibition in 1933, holding the oldest liquor licence in the city. If you’re in “Little Italy”, and looking for somewhere to satisfy your late night food cravings you may be disappointed to find that most places in this charming little neighborhood close early.Fear not! That’s when The Waterfront Bar & Grill will come to your rescue! Like it surely did for me! I can’t begin to count the times they saved me from late night hunger pains in my hotel room. They offer a great late night menu with tasty food,a lively environment, phenomenal service, free popcorn, and to top it off even some arcade games to keep you entertained. Its one historical landmark you don't want to leave San Diego without visiting!
Service The Customer service here is unlike anything I have ever seen, I can honestly say I’ve never felt more “at home “in any bar before. All the bartenders here quickly became familiar with me during my visit. I will never forget on my last night in town I went to the bar for one final night cap in town. As I sat down, the bartender greeted me familiarly asking me how I was today, and that she was glad to see me back. The person sitting next to me, looked at me and said "You must be a local!" Once I explained to her that this was not the case, she was stunned. “But then how do they know you?” I guess that’s what happens when you visit the same bar four times in the course of a two week stay in San Diego. I'm usually not one to drink at all, and when I do drink I never have more than one or two drinks. However something about this trip, this bar, and celebrating my 26th birthday made my normal alcohol restrictions loosen up a little. And boy am I glad I did! Or else I would've missed out on this quirky bar, with some of the most phenomenal service I have ever experienced.
Food As you can tell, I couldn't just pick one entree, with so many options to indulge in. I made sure to mix it up and try something new each time I visited. I had the pleasure of consuming all the plates seen above, and I have to say out of the calamari, mini sliders, tacos, and burger. My favorite were the mouthwatering mini sliders because they were just enough to get me full, the regular size burger was just as great but just too big of a burger for me. The tacos definitely came in seconds, with their fresh taste and great price they hit the spot! The Waterfront offers some fantastic weekly specials you won't want to miss.On Tuesday they run a taco Tuesday night. Offering $2 Chicken, Carne Asada & Fish Tacos, and you can upgrade to shrimp tacos for $4. The juicy shrimp taco is well worth the $2 upcharge, and still a steal! My only regret is not visiting on a Monday and trying their 75 cents wings or $5 Absolut Mules. Rest assure no matter what you end up ordering, its going to be tasty, fresh, and reasonably priced!
Free Popcorn There's nothing better than a free bar snack, the Waterfront flavorful popcorn has just the kick you need. Not to mention, Its great to have something other than a traditional assorted nut tray as a snack. When you realize they add their own kick to it you'll be presently surprise. This spicy popcorn is the perfect compliment to any cocktail, so make sure to find their popcorn machine on the left hand side of the bar and serve yourself as much as you can eat!
Delicious Cocktails Craftily made cocktails after a long day of walking, and touring San Diego is the perfect way to end any day in California. The Waterfront offers an array of beers, wines, local brews and cocktails that are certain to satisfy your need. So no matter what it is your looking for feel free to ask your bartender! Even if she does not have the slightest clue of the drink your referring too, she will try her best to look it up and master it. Which is a lot more of an effort than most places would make, most bartenders would simply say they don't have it and move on. Here at the waterfront however, they go out of their way to find out what the customer wants and they do their very best to deliver!
Arcade Games Many bars don't have any source of entertainment other than background music playing, which is one of the things that make the waterfront stand out. Its a lively bar perfect for playing some games while having a few drinks. The waterfront bar and grill truly does have it all. Offering the perfect balance between traditional and trendy. It's the perfect historical hang out to enjoy with all your friends, while playing games and having some memorable drinks in the oldest bar in the city!
