Believe it or not there was a time that alcohol was illegal to produce, import, transport, or sale from 1920 to 1933. Can you image 13 years without having the privilege of having a drink, if the desire arises or for celebrations? As you can envision THE PEOPLE would not stand for this, therefore they created places where they could hide from the law. Secretly speakeasy bars begun to pop up nationwide, which started the era of cocktails bars hidden in very creative ways for us to enjoy for centuries after the prohibition. Needle & Thread is a spectacular speakeasy bar in Seattle, make sure not to miss your chance to embrace this place for all it has to offer!
What makes this speakeasy bar so special? The list is very long! For starters it’s located inside a restaurant called Tavern Law, which has some delicious entrees you can fill up on before your special experience. Once it’s approaching your reservation time, walk over to the phone on the wall and pick it up. That will call the secret bar to check if there is vacancy yet, if there is they will buzz you right in! Once you hang up the phone the bank vault door will open, you will go thru a secret passage way upstairs which is where you will come face to face with this exclusive bar. Then the fun really begins...so sit back and enjoy the atmosphere, and sip on your expertly crafted delicious prohibition era drinks. This was the very first thing I did when I landed in Seattle, and it was the ideal place to kick off a great trip!
Specially crafted drinks
There is no such thing as a menu here! The bartender exclusively creates a drink for every client based on the customer preferences. For example I’m a margarita gal, so the bartender got creative and submerged me with a sour drink that exploded my taste buds. The second drink I let him take full range, and he surpassed my expectations even more… What’s so wonderful about these drinks are the intricate little details, besides the array of delicious flavors of course. No two drinks will ever be exactly the same, which makes this experience a unique one!
There are certain things you must know before going to this bar, be prepared to plan ahead unfortunately they don’t allow you to make reservations more than a week an advance. Therefore if I were you I would set your calendars. As soon as your 7 days out from your trip call, and pray that they pick up! Keep in mind that they are on the west coast therefore you might be calling them when they are closed, if you have to resort to leaving a voicemail. Keep the following things in mind they will not create a reservation for you solely based on a voicemail, even if you give them exact time and date. So make sure to answer their return call, or else you won’t be getting in. What happens if you couldn’t get a reservation? Don’t freak out, your chances are not over yet! If you are in the area, I would suggest stopping by picking up the phone and calling up to the bar. As long as there are seats available they will buzz you in, however this bar is very small and seats are very limited. If I were you I wouldn’t take my chances, make your reservations in advance for an experience you will never forget!
