Best thing about the city of brotherly love is there are endless ways to get around,See our top five suggestions for transportation in Philadelphia!
1)Indego Bike Rental
This is certainly one of the easiest and cheapest way to get around the Philly! But most importantly it's so convenient! With many different pickup/drop off destinations throughout the city. Making it the easiest way for you to simply get off your bike and explore. One of my favorite things about this bike is that it has a basket in the front and in the back, which makes it ideal for carrying anything: food, drinks, shopping bags, etc. They are even available for use 365 days a year, 24hrs of a day, which make this one of the most reliable ways to get around town! Without the constant concern of paying for parking, or parallel parking and dealing with meters. If you plan on using this a lot during your trip you can get an Indego key card and use it at any location, or you can buy a single bike ride using your credit card. They have monthly packages starting at $17 a month or $4 a ride.
2)Philadelphia Sightseeing Tour
Is my favorite tour bus option for getting to know the city of Philadelphia, your able to hop on and off at 25 different stops around the city. These stops cover a 16 mile radius and leave you at or near a hundred of attarctions in Philadelphia. One of the highlights of this tour is all the valuable information the tour guide provides as your riding throughout the city, its one of the many perks to choosing this option. You can buy a one day ticket, or package it for a few days which makes it a lot more economical for your pocket: One day cost of $34,two days are $54, and three days is $69.
Kid rates: One day: $17,Two days $20 three days:$26
Address: 111 S Independence Mall E, Philadelphia, PA 19106
3)Big Bus Tour
This is another bus tour option similar to the option listed above, like the other tour they also take you to 25 stops.(which cover the same amount of attractions as the tour above) Your also still able to hop on and off, however I just didn't find their tour as informative as the one above. Did they still provide information yes, but the tour certainly was not as animated, entertaining or informative as philadelphia site seeing tours. Sometimes the difference of an informative tour guide can add immense value to your tour because your also gaining more knowledge about what your seeing. However if you don't find that to be an important factor, and just looking for a way around the city. There tickets start at $35 for a one day ticket, $55 for two days, and $75 for three days. Kid rates: One day: $12,Two days $18 three days:$26
Departing from: 5th & Market Street directly in front of Independence Visitor Center
4)Septa Public Transportation
One thing you should never rule out in any city is public transportation, especially inPhiladelphia! They offer so many different options to help you get around the city:Trolleys, subways, and buses! Many people fear public transportation, but that's the last thing you should fear in any city! It is a tool utilized every single days by locals, and its often the best way to get a real feel of any city! It also very affordable to use public transportation bus fares, rails and trolley start at $2.50
5)Using Your Own Two Feet
This one is the most obvious but many people don't seem to think of it! Believe it or not the city of Philadelphia is an extremely walk-able city, the best part about walking is: Your not depending on anyone, your exercising, its free, and you don't have to deal with traffic! Another benefit to walking is that you often find places you would've never discovered using any other type of transportation.
Transportation options from the airport
When commuting into the city from the airport the Septa is your best option it will cost $6.75 to get into the city, which in comparison to a $30 cab/uber ride it's a steal! I would avoid cabs or uber/lyft if possible, their high fares simply aren't worth it. Philadelphia has far too many transportation options to resort to paying cab fares. Make sure to take advantage of tour packages if you plan to spend a few days in the city. Also keep in mind if you simply just need a lift use their bike service or one of their many public transportation options. The city of Philadelphia has made it easy for travelers to navigate through the city, so make sure to use all the options you have at your disposal!
