Appalachian Trial Approach Roughly 2000 people walk through this infamous arch every year, and only 1 in every 4 hiker makes it all the way to the end! It take 5 to 7 months & not to mention the cost can quickly add up. They recommend about a thousand dollar per hiker a month, which by the end of the journey adds up quickly to $5,000-$7,000 dollars. Not many can say they have the completed the Appalachian trail which starts at Springer Mountain in northern Georgia and ends in Mt. Katahdin which is located in Maine. Although I don't know if I will ever be one of the few to accomplish such an enormous trail,I am glad I was able to at least complete this long enduring hike to the top of Amicalola falls.
The Trail If there is one word that I would use to describe this trail is strenuous, there are over 600 stair steps that you will lead you to the waterfall .If your planning on going to the lodge for dinner its another 500 steps up, plus a small hike to the lodge that's about a quarter of a mile long. I wish I could tell you it will be painless the following morning but that certainly was not the case for me, that's why I was so grateful that my agenda for the next day only consisted of antiquing & seeingToccoa falls. If you plan to scope out the best waterfalls in Georgia, start your trip with Amicalola which is the tallest cascading waterfall in the southeast. Than wrap up your trip at Toccoa falls, although this fall is only 186 feet tall its still taller than Niagara falls & a remarkable sight to take in.
Amicalola Falls Those who put in the work certainly reap the reward, and nothing is more rewarding than the slight mist you feel on your face as you gaze up at Amicalola falls. Sitting at a astonishing 729 ft, you will simply be amazed of the masterpiece mother nature has left behind for us to admire. Amicalola falls is known as one of the state of Georgia seven wonders,at the top of the waterfall elevation reaches 2476 ft. Make sure to bring plenty of water in order to stay drenched in replenished during your hike, unfortunately there aren't many water fountains throughout the park.
The Lodge Making it all the way up to The Lodge has certainly been one of my biggest hiking accomplishment, under rain showers & after a long hot exhausting day of hiking. Nothing could have been more rewarding than this juicy rib-eye, with a hypnotizing view of the mountains! Such a romantic way to end the day at the top of the very mountain you just conquered, feasting on a meal fit for royalty. My best part of The lodge was that the outdoors seating area overlooking the mountains, I could have sat there for a lifetime. Next time your planning a Georgia road trip make sure to include Amicalola State Park, and absolutely make it your priority to make it all the way to The Lodge!
