I consider myself to be great with directions, if I go somewhere once I never forget. However when I'm in an unknown city, I sometimes rely on the help from a local. Which I'm coming to find that sometimes, is not the best idea. Normally with a simple question I know which way I must maneuver. But what happens when that stranger is not really listening? Well you end up in places like Somerville.

Hmmmmm.... something is not right here?
How did I get to Somerville?
Now that's a story I will be telling for a long time. Exploring Boston surroundings, I decided to head out to antique store in Cambridge,MA. I had to take the train all the way to Lechmere station, and then it was a short walk from there. On the way back, I could not find the entrance part of the train station only the exit part I had gotten off at. With that being said one of the best thing about Boston is that there Charlie card is for both buses and train. Therefore I saw there was a bus that said C
larendon hill. I was looking for Clarendon Street which is where you get off at the back bay train station. I got on the bus and ask the driver firmly " does this take you to Clarendon st by back bay?"  The driver quickly responded yes, and what I thought to be confidence turned out to be just the opposite.

Where was this sign when I needed it?
It wasn't until we made it all the way to Clarendon hill, that I realized something had gone terribly wrong. When I asked the driver the very same question, I got a stunned expression in return. She had no idea what I was taking about, this whole time she thought I had said Clarendon hill. She quickly apologized, and recommended which bus would take me to the train and where I needed to get off. Bad news was I was nowhere near where I needed to be. I had ended up in a whole another city named Somerville, MA.

The Bus that saved the day!
Waiting is never fun!
After being told that bus 88 was not taking me where I needed to be. I was advised I should get on bus 89 get on the train and proceed from there. The 89 bus never came..... And after seeing 88 roll by 3x and 87. I just couldn't wait anymore, the next bus that pulled up I was getting on it no matter what it was.... Of course it was #88, I told the new bus driver what had happen and she made sure to get me to a train station and sincerely apologized for the other driver lack of attention. Before dropping me off at the train station she said one thing I will never forget..... After thanking her for her help, she jokingly said now you know where calerendon hill is. Oh boy do I ever.... And I will never forget!!
What did I learn from this?
That I shouldn't rely on the help of a stranger, sure helpful locals are great but those that are just trying to get you out of there way will say yes to anything. So be caution of who your asking for directions. I would certainly recommend asking more then one person, because even when you think your heading in the right direction.... You may be absolutely wrong!

Remember one very important thing
When your in a place that is not very familiar you are bound to get lost at one point or another. Don't stress it, stop and take a deep breath. Then figure out your way back to where you need to be, I assure you it won't be as difficult as you may think. Will it be a process? Yes, will you have to use different forms of transportation's? Perhaps, but remember it all part of the journey! Everywhere you end up.... is exactly where you are suppose to be!
